JEEPERS CREEPERS: Into the world of Buggers

Little do we care of how bugs and insects that critters, hops, makes annoying noises can be of use, and takes a valuable role, center stage as in protein bars in the west. These little buggers are a source of inspiration because of their visually attractive form for a collection, as an organic art, or for texture to make a collection more appealing and interesting! One of the nicest thing about photography is the joy of capturing what your eyes perceive and that moment comes when you capture some few images of the subject. When the subject is a bug or an insect, staying still, without moving a muscle is what a photographer requires. Macro photography gives us what we may not be able to see with our naked eyes.

An insect being the main source of inspiration for a collection is not new. It can be traced back as far as 650 AD where metallic beetles were used to adorned paintings, ornate hand held fans, uplift jewelries, figurines etc. similarly goes with textiles, textures used by designers for print projects or for a collection for a fashion week. Animals, insects, bugs anything that slithers, crawls, all have a commonplace in the fashion world. Exotic skins are illegal, though some fashion house still use it for the sake of keeping the tradition alive and for the fear of losing its loyal line ups.

For the sheer joy of the known expectation from these humble bug, none have been harm for style inspiration. They sure do inspire fashion designers for the new structures, rich vivid colours, shiny textures. The past seasons JC De Castel Bajac was inspired by the perfect geometrical structures of the insects, Haider Ackerman’s black leather inspired by insects wingspan, Yves Saint Laurent micro textured bottle green little dress inspired by beetle wings and many more.

Bugs, insects will always have the ‘rightness’, for style inspiration and guess what, the search for new inspiration will be forever and plentiful that is because there are millions of bugs found in this world and many yet undiscovered. Whether it’s swarm of bees, or a cluster of butterflies sucking nectar, or roaches hidden behind your cupboard, instead of disturbing them or smacking, squashing them flat, you may as well try scooching them in a jar for your next inspiration and visualize a great collection coming alive from covering the main page of a fashion magazine to walking models with delightful insects inspired- breath taking clothes.
