Elephantasia, at Eco Fashion Week

As man is turning ruthless by the minute in this self-absorbed world, few are those who are backing the voiceless. There are a few hundred species of morphons who at the mercy of humans for their unquenched thirst of exotic fashion. Little do they realise, the brutal manufacturing process behind these fashion pieces. Chief amongst these animals are elephants, tortured for ivory. While there are those encourage the demand for ivory, there are those who protest against it. Fashion For Conservation, for instance, is one such organisation that is globally working towards #saynotoivory. Elephantasia is an initiative that they support, amongst many others, dedicated to Elephants. It is a three year long global exhibition of elephant-inspired couture supported by a global team of empowered professionals and creatives creating a world where elephants can thrive.

For the first time, Elephantasia was exhibited during Eco Fashion-Week (EFW), informing and inspiring the fashion-conscious, and sustainable-minded alike in a way that harmonizes beauty and the environment. It witnessed a few designers from different parts of the world, contributing to the global cause. Also witnessed at the showcase was Shriti Pratap from India. Her collection interpreted the shape of the elephant in high end Eco-friendly body suits that show resemblances of the "Elephant ears" and the "trunk." Another one of her pieces is a hand painted image of two elephants on sustainable silk. Amongst others were Oscar Abbotts and Riccardo Caretti who showcased NO VOICE and Marina Toeters who showcased technology driven-elephant inspired collection. Elephantasia will be showcasing in London, Berlin, and Amsterdam in 2017 and then South Africa, India and New York in 2018 inspiring and expanding their audience globally!
