Artist Alert: Two Feet

Indie artists are making their way into the market and I couldn’t be happier. Being a girl who is really into old school rock n roll and new pop, I never really thought I would be able to open my mind to the electronic music that dropped in the world. Oh I’m glad I was wrong.

With rise of artists like Nick Murphy (Chet Faker), Glass Animals and Flora Cash, it’s about time this solo musician be introduced to the Indian audience as well. Bill Dess or his preferred stage name Two Feet's emergence seems as mysterious as it is rapid. He is an early 20-something year old singer, multi instrumentalist, and producer from Harlem, New York. He seamlessly blends genres to create a sound that draws from electronic, jazz, blues and soul.

Releasing his debut EP, First Steps, on his SoundCloud page in 2016, the breakthrough track ‘Go Fuck Yourself’ quickly gained him attention and over 8 million plays. And believe me; you won’t be able to resist bobbing your head to the beats of the track. The EP is a collection of four songs born out of frustration and a volatile reaction to other projects he had been working. “I kind of just put it up because I was fed up with the other music I was making for other people” Bill says. Since its debut with independent record label, Majestic Casual Records, it has slowly crawled its way into major tastemaker playlists on Spotify and garnered other platforms such as iTunes.

For the most part, Two Feet’s hazy and mellow sound is a lot like contemporary artists like Chet Faker, with a low key beat that is as subtle as it is unshakeable, but at the core of the EP lies on Harlem influences. His vocals mix along well with that of Ray LaMontagne. His tracks like ‘Quick Musical Doodles and Sex’ and ‘Love is a Bitch’ bleed with raw blues at heart. These two tracks even conquer Two Feet’s Jazz influences.

The first thing I thought to myself when I first stumbled upon Two Feet was the fact that this guy will blow up. In the previous month he came out with the phenomenal track ‘I Feel Like I’m Drowning’ and it has people going frenzy over it. He begins his first tour next year, in January 2018 in America and I wish and hope he lands up in India one day.
