91,000 SWAROVSKI CRYSTALS HIT THE RUNWAY

DURING NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

New York, September 17, 2018 – This season Swarovski supported designers Christopher John Rogers, Jonathan Cohen, Jeremy Scott and Jason Wu, who showcased stunning Spring/Summer 2019 collections featuring 91,000 Swarovski crystals during New York Fashion Week.

Christopher John Rogers incorporated 20,000 Swarovski crystals into his collection. The inspirations behind Roger’s SS19 collection ranged over numerous decades and artists, including 1930s French couture, 1970s West African photography, early Isaac Mizrahi and Angela de la Cruz. Rogers’ use of Swarovski crystal allowed him to further elevate his statement pieces, with hotfix crystals enhancing patterns on dresses and skirts, prints and iridescent fabrics, bringing a focus to tonal color and the movement of the pieces. Additionally, crystal buttons were used on blazers and blouses as well as hot fix crystals were used to spell out ‘Drama’ on a striking tulle shawl. Several models also had Swarovski crystals incorporated into their makeup.

Jonathan Cohen showcased his enchanting line with 11,000 embroidered Swarovski crystals in shades of red and black in beautiful flower designs. Moved by the beauty of song writing and storytelling, Cohen designed his SS19 collection with romance in mind. The collection was inspired by music from Siouxsie Sioux, Robert Smith, Lauryn Hill and Kate Bush, and each artist’s similar emotional tale of love and loss. The whimsical pieces sparkled with the Swarovski crystals added to petal and floral designs, with multi-shaped crystals blended with organza accentuating the designer’s nostalgic exploration of the power of love and emotion.

Jeremy Scott showcased his collection with 32,000 Swarovski crystals in shades of pink, blue, gold and green dazzling on the runway. Scott incorporated his own sense of style and personality circa the 90’s-part grunge, sportswear, army surplus and super glam. The designer assorted his various styles into a whimsical and inspiring collection for the new season. Scott embellished a jacket, skirt, sunglasses, boots and corsets with crystals in various shapes, including hearts and moons, adding a sparkling dimension to the looks. The designer applied the crystals by hand on each glistening piece.

Jason Wu’s collection included 28,000 Swarovski crystals enhancing his collection with Golden and Silk colored crystal clusters in several shapes and crystal embroidered designs, elegantly displayed on three dresses. The contrast between the sheer fabric and embellishment of crystals gave the pieces a seductive modern edge, while the surrounding floral displays boasted the collection’s feminine touch. The designer drew inspiration from botanicals, a major theme he often showcases with his pieces. The dazzling collection speaks to Wu’s consistent presentation of refined femininity.

Christopher John Rogers: Presentation on Thursday, September 6 at Martos Gallery

“We want to offer the customer a wardrobe that reflects their confidence and champions their flare for the dramatic in a modern world. Seeing Swarovski elements on a garment automatically excites a customer but wearing a Swarovski embellished garment that reflects your innermost you is something really special; it makes you stand taller. Ultimately that’s what we do — we try to encourage a wardrobe that truly lifts you and those around you just a little bit higher.” – Christopher John Rogers

Jonathan Cohen: Presentation on Thursday, September 6 at 218 Bowery

“I have a real passion for the art of storytelling, whether it be in books, movies, or songs. My goal with this collection was to translate that feeling into my clothes – to convey an emotion – and in my opinion, nobody does that better than songwriters. To be able to work the finest crystals into our pieces is a dream come true.” – Jonathan Cohen

Jeremy Scott: Runway Show on Thursday, September 6 at Spring Studios

“Nothing sparkles like Swarovski crystals do! Even diamonds are jealous! If you want to make a real splash you have to use Swarovski. I wanted to play with transparency and shine at the same time-almost like the crystals are floating around the body like a glamourous force field!” – Jeremy Scott

Jason Wu: Presentation on Friday, September 7 at Tribeca Lofts

“I’ve worked with Swarovski throughout my entire career, their innovative materials are unrivaled and provide endless inspiration for me every season. It has been great to evolve together over the last decade.” – Jason Wu
