LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK ANNOUNCES THE GEN NEXT BATCH FOR SUMMER/RESORT 2019
Mumbai, 19th December 2018: India’s most premier fashion platform, Lakmé Fashion Week announces its 27th batch of Gen Next designers who have been chosen to showcase their creations at the property’s Summer/Resort 2019 edition, scheduled to start on 30th January. The Gen Next Designer Programme at Lakmé Fashion Week is known for introducing some of Indian fashion’s most renowned designers like Rahul Mishra, Nachiket Barve, Masaba Gupta, Kallol Dutta and Aneeth Arora, among others.
The Summer/Resort 2019 batch has been handpicked by the prestigious LFW Advisory Board at a meeting held on the 17th December 2018. The board comprises of stalwarts of the Indian Fashion Industry including leading designers Anita Dongre, Narendra Kumar, editor Grazia India- Mehernaaz Dhondy; Namrata Zakaria – Columnist at Mumbai Mirror; Ashwath Swaminathan – Head of Innovations; Lakmé and Jaspreet Chandok – Vice President and Head of Fashion, IMG Reliance.
Announcing this batch of Gen Next designers, Ashwath Swaminathan, Head of Innovations, Lakmé said “Gen Next is a key pillar for Lakme Fashion Week. Every season we discover new talent who make their mark in the fashion industry. This season too, we have four promising designers, and it’s a nice mix of design sensibilities, so I look forward to them showing at LFW SR 19.”

BIRDWALK by AMRAPALI SINGH
Information on the designer and the collection:
Name: Amrapali Singh
Age: 36 years
City: New Delhi
Amrapali has a Masters in Fashion from Marangoni, Italy. Besides founding the label ‘BIRDWALK’, she also has experience running her own export house.
Her collection this season uses patch work and a limited palette to capture the nostalgia created by the glamour and allure of yesteryear cinema stars. The collection uses hand and machine embroidery, silk organza, cotton, silk linen, viscose chiffon and silk Chanderi.
EK KATHA by MADHUMITA NATH
Information on the designer and the collection:
Name: Madhumita Nath
Age: 40 years
City: Mumbai
A textile design graduate from NID, Ahmedabad, Madhumita has worked at SEWA to learn the embroidery technique as practiced by the Garasia Jat tribes of Kutch. She has also worked at Weavetex and P.I. Industries, before launching her label
The SS ‘19 Collection ‘BLISS’ as the name suggest soothes your senses with its subtle tints. The natural beiges, muted yellows and organic print patterns are juxtaposed on breezy, bohemian silhouettes. Calm, uncomplicated and unbound by rules is the essence of the collection.
The collection uses hand woven organic short staple indigenous cotton, nassi- silk and silk organza yarn dyed in natural colours and Batik wood block printed with natural dyes
SUNAINA KHERA by SUNAINA KHERA
Information on the designer and the collection:
Name: Sunaina Khera
Age: 25 years
City: New Delhi
Sunaina is a graduate from NIFT, New Delhi. Prior to launching her label, Sunaina Khera, Sunaina used to intern with ace designer Gaurav Gupta. Sunaina has had celebrities like Sonam Kapoor, Malaika Arora, Kriti Sanon sport her label.
Loosely based on personal experiences, this collection revolves around the stages of grief, the ability to overcome loss and accept change. The collection driven by sentiments, translates into pieces of clothing, each articulating a unique story.
The collection uses organza, silk, tulle as well as paisley and hand embroidered sequins. The color palette ranges from dark hues to sparkling whites, delicate pinks and bold violets.
SUNAINA KHERA by SUNAINA KHERA
UJJWALA BHADU by UJJWALA BHADU
Information on the designer and the collection:
Name: Ujjwala Bhadu
Age: 23 years
City: Jodhpur
Ujjwala has a BFA in Fashion Design from Parsons New York. Before launching her label, Ujjwala has worked as an intern with Bibhu Mohapatra, Oscar de la Renta, Theory and Philip Lim.
The collection explores the concept of personal and acquired cultures through craft intensive textiles, modern form and color resulting in fun, functional, wearable pieces.
