DESIGNER GAURAV KHANIJO SHOWCASED A SUSTAINABLE FASHION STORY TOGETHER WITH ACTOR JIM SARBH AT CURATO

Mumbai, 21st December 2018: Gaurav Khanijo conjures up visions of artistically tailored silhouettes reflecting the new age somber that can also turn into timeless fashion investments. Moving a few fashion notches away, Khanijo celebrates the state of nature in his latest collection ‘Earth Emancipation’ by adding the dynamic and vibrant shades of green and blues, brilliant shades of the sun and vibrant pink and reds that paid a perfect tribute to the urban animal of today. Presented at the mecca of designer menswear, Curato, the collection added to the charm to the exclusive cocktail evening.

Being synonymous with purity of craftsmanship, textiles and techniques, this collection too is a masterful blend of natural fabrics such as linen, khadi, wool and silk that is all manufactured ethically in handlooms by local cluster weavers. The surface development for this collection is manifested by combining printing with thread work, complemented with label’s classic menswear tailoring techniques. Added to the flavor of the collection were its simple yet dramatic relaxed silhouettes that were surprisingly interspersed with conspicuous textures in form of threadwork inspired by abstract flora and fauna designs. Functional and durable, this collection quietly nurtures the nature while adding a new dimension to the contemporary dressing.

Talking about the collection, designer Gaurav Khanijo said, “We have tried to emulate this energy with a mix of different techniques keeping our main focus on using natural fibers and practicing sustainable manufacturing techniques. I believe that’s the only way we could progress further. My urge from this collection is to call for slow down and disconnect continually. Alike the label ethos, this collection focuses on slow and sustainable consumption while providing the intense fashion experience to the wearer.”

Adding further about his muse Jim Sarbh, he said, “He is someone who is not bound by gender, rules, borders and ethnicity. He is an earth patriot, who creates his own rules but is rooted in community. He is the face of this new generation of multifaceted dynamic people who are made up of the collage of their experiences. His persona serves as an inspiration as well as shapes the way we look at our consumer. I simply couldn’t have imagined this collection without him.”

Talking about the collection, actor Jim Sarbh said, “Gaurav is a friend and my favorite designer, his designs resonates with my style and hence, it’s always a pleasure working with him. This collection has got just everything right in perfect proportions. I have a huge respect for his vision of sustainability and I really admire his effort to maintain the ethical standards end to end.”

Talking about the collection, Tanisha Rahimtoola Agarwal & Shibani Bhagat says, “Curato is on its way to create repositories of India’s best conceptual collaborations. From Kanika X BabbuThePainter to Jim Sarbh X Gaurav Khanijo, we are taking bigger strides to cater to this new young generation of fashion conscious urban dandies while strengthening the menswear designer network. We are glad to witness such an artistic association and plan to come up with many more for our audience."
